Brava is Located in the Sotavento, it is the smallest inhabited island of the entire archipelago, with a relatively small number of inhabitants, around 7,000. The name Brava comes from the flowery appearance that the island had when it was found, which is why it became known as the island of flowers.
The persistence of fog, contributes to the island being covered by vegetation, making it one of the greenest islands in Cape Verde. Agriculture and fishing are the island’s main economic activities. The island is few explored, largely due to its conditioned access.
The only way to access the island is by boat from Fogo Island. Even so, the island is not an exception to the rule of other islands, with its friendly people and its Morna, Cape Verde’s cultural musical style. Its main urban center is Nova Sintra, which received this name because it has an appearance that recalls the city of Sintra in Portugal. It is a small city with flowers and colonial architecture.
One of the few islands in Cape Verde that still does not have an airport to connect with other islands, so it is only possible to enter the island by ferry that connects Praia to Fogo and from Fogo 1 hour to reach the port of Brava. Tickets are available twice a week and can be found with travel agencies or even at the port before the trip.
